Value-Added Grain = More Value from the Acres

Value-Added Grain Markets

There could be $100 more per acre just sitting in your field. With Central Valley Ag’s Value-Added Grain program, premium markets can create an opportunity to capture additional margin from acres you are already farming without completely overhauling your operation.

Same equipment. Same agronomy. More opportunity for your acres.

Value-Added Grain connects growers with premium markets for grain that meets specific end-user requirements. For growers, it can be another way to add value to their operation and capture additional margin from the acres they are already farming.

CVA works with a variety of Value-Added Grain opportunities. Some of the most common include white corn, non-GMO white corn and food-grade yellow corn, with additional opportunities across Value-Added corn and soybeans.

Current Value-Added Grain Commodities Include:

  • White corn
  • Non-GMO white corn
  • Non-GMO yellow corn
  • Food-grade yellow corn
  • Non-GMO blue corn
  • Non-GMO waxy corn
  • Organic yellow, white and blue corn
  • Non-GMO soybeans
  • Organic soybeans

You May Already Be Closer Than You Think

One of the biggest questions growers may have about Value-Added Grain is simple: What will I have to do differently? In many cases, this would be less than you expect.
Value-Added Grain generally uses the same agronomic practices, equipment and inputs as standard yellow corn. The biggest differences come from planning for the specific requirements needed to maintain the quality and integrity of the grain.

Depending on the program, considerations can include:

  • Access to on-farm storage
  • Proper aeration and grain-quality management
  • Meeting specific grain-quality standards
  • Maintaining traceability and keeping Value-Added Grain separate
  • Flexibility for Buyer’s Call Delivery

With Buyer’s Call Delivery, growers should be prepared to store and maintain grain quality until delivery is requested and then arrange delivery according to the contract.

The goal isn't to make your operation more complicated. It is to understand the requirements ahead of time, plan accordingly and determine whether the additional opportunity makes sense for your farm.
